These heartburn and acid reflux capsules contain esomeprazole 20mg. It belongs to a group of medicines called ‘proton pump inhibitors’ and they work by reducing the amount of acid that your stomach produces.

Esomeprazole is used for short-term treatment of reflux symptoms like heartburn and acid regurgitation or for reflux. Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (“foodpipe”) which may become inflamed and painful. Symptoms of acid reflux include painful sensations in the chest that rises up to your throat (heartburn) or a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).

While esomeprazole does not bring immediate relief in the way an antacid would, after taking for 2-3 days in a row, most patients feel a lot better, with much greater symptom control.

How To Use

• Take one capsule each day
• Talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 14 days

Do Not Take Esomeprazole If You;

• Are allergic to esomeprazole or any other ingredients
• Are allergic to medicines containing other proton pump inhibitors (pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole or omeprazole)
• Are taking nelfinavir

Warnings and Precautions

Talk to your doctor before taking Esomeprazole if you;

• Have had a stomach ulcer or stomach surgery in the past
• Have been taking treatment continuously for reflux or heartburn for 4 or more weeks
• Have jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes) or severe liver problems
• Have severe kidney problems
• Are aged over 55 years & have new or recently changed reflux symptoms or need to take a non-prescription indigestion or heartburn remedy treatment every day
• Have ever had a skin reaction after treatment with a medicine similar to Esomeprazole
• Are due to have an endoscopy or a urea breath test
• Are due to have a specific blood test (Chromogranin A)

Tell your doctor immediately before or after taking this medicine, if you notice any of the following symptoms, which could be a sign of another more serious disease

• A lot of weight loss for no reason
• Problems or pain when swallowing
• Stomach pain or signs of indigestion such as nausea, fullness, bloating especially after food intake
• Vomiting food or blood, which may appear as dark coffee grounds in your vomit
• Passing black stools
• Severe or persistent diarrhoea
• Skin rash, especially in areas exposed to the sun
• Seek urgent medical attention if you experience chest pain with light-headedness, sweating, dizziness or shoulder pain with shortness of breath. This could be a sign of a serious condition with your heart.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

• Preferably avoid the use of Esomeprazole when pregnant
• Do not use this medicine during breast-feeding
• If you are pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine

Active Ingredients

Each capsule contains esomprazole 20mg

Capsule content: sugar spheres (sucrose and maize starch), hypromellose, dimethicone emulsion 35% (containing dimethicone, propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), sorbic acid, sodium benzoate, polyethylene glycol sorbitan monolaureate, octylphenoxy polyethoxy ethanol and propylene glycol), polysorbate 80, mannitol, diacetylated monoglycerides, talc, methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1) dispersion 30 % (containing copolymer of methacrylic acid and ethyl acrylate, sodium lauryl sulfate and polysorbate 80), triethyl citrate and stearoyl macrogolglycerides. Capsule shell: gelatin, yellow iron oxide (E 172) and titanium dioxide (E 171).
Printing ink: black iron oxide (E 172), shellac, ammonia, potassium hydroxide, propylene glycol.
