Product Information

Targeted Relief for Sickness

Motilium 10mg Film-Coated Tablets are used to treat nausea and vomiting in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older (weighing 35kg or more). The active ingredient, Domperidone, works by helping the stomach empty more quickly and ensuring food moves through the digestive system more effectively, which helps to suppress the feeling of sickness.

Whether caused by a viral bug, dietary indiscretion, or other temporary factors, Motilium provides a reliable way to regain comfort and get back to your daily routine.

Key Benefits & Features

  • Fast-Acting Relief: Specifically formulated to target the physical causes of nausea and vomiting.
  • Clinically Proven: Contains Domperidone, a trusted active ingredient for digestive motility.
  • Easy-to-Swallow: Small, film-coated tablets designed for comfortable administration.

How to use

How to Take Motilium

  • Adults and adolescents (12+ years and ≥35 kg): Take one tablet up to three times a day, ideally before meals.
  • Do not exceed three tablets (30 mg) in 24 hours.
  • Swallow tablets whole with water.
  • Do not use for more than 7 days without medical advice.
  • For the fastest relief from nausea, take your Motilium tablet 15 to 30 minutes before a meal. If you take it after you have already eaten, the medicine is absorbed more slowly, meaning it will take longer for your symptoms to improve.

If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless it’s nearly time for your next dose. Do not double up.

Who Should Not Take Motilium

Do not take Motilium if you:

  • Are under 12 years old or weigh less than 35 kg.
  • Have moderate or severe liver problems.
  • Have a blocked or perforated stomach or intestines, or stomach bleeding.
  • Have or had a heart rhythm disorder or heart failure.
  • Are taking certain antifungal, antibiotic, or antidepressant medicines (see below or ask your pharmacist).
  • Are allergic to domperidone or any ingredients in the tablets.

If you have kidney problems or are over 60 years of age, your doctor may advise a lower dose or less frequent use.

Motilium (Domperidone) Safety & Interactions Guide

Because Motilium can affect heart rhythm (specifically the QT interval), it is clinically important to ensure it is not taken with other medications that have similar effects or that increase the level of Motilium in your blood.

High-Risk Interactions (Do Not Combine)

You must not take Motilium if you are currently taking any of the following:

  • Antifungals: Such as ketoconazole, fluconazole, or voriconazole.
  • Antibiotics: Specifically erythromycin, clarithromycin, or telithromycin.
  • Heart Rhythm Medications: Such as amiodarone, sotalol, or diltiazem.
  • Antidepressants: Specifically escitalopram or citalopram.
  • HIV/AIDS Treatments: Protease inhibitors like ritonavir or saquinavir.

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Motilium can cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them.
Common side effects include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Sleepiness or restlessness

Rare but serious side effects include:

  • Heart rhythm disturbances (rapid or irregular heartbeat)
  • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, or swelling of the face or throat
  • Breast tenderness, milk discharge, or changes in menstrual cycle

Stop taking Motilium and seek medical help immediately if you experience palpitations, fainting, or shortness of breath.

Storage

  • Store below 30 °C in the original packaging, away from light.
  • Keep out of sight and reach of children.
  • Do not use after the expiry date shown on the carton.

Pharmacist Tips when taking Motilium

"If you are over 60 years of age, we strongly recommend consulting our pharmacist or your GP before using Motilium, as you may be at a higher risk of heart rhythm disorders. Always stay hydrated with small, frequent sips of water or a rehydration solution if you have been vomiting."

Digestion & Other Medications

  • Antacids & Secretion-inhibitors: If you are taking medicines to reduce stomach acid (like Nexium, Gaviscon, or Pepcid), they should be taken after meals and not at the same time as Motilium. Taking them together can reduce how well Motilium is absorbed.

Common Questions about Motilium

How quickly does Motilium start to work?

Motilium is usually absorbed quickly. Symptoms should begin to improve shortly after the first dose, particularly if taken before food. If your symptoms do not improve after 7 days, you must speak with your doctor.

Can I take Motilium if I feel dizzy?

Motilium is specifically for nausea and vomiting. If your primary symptom is dizziness or vertigo (a spinning sensation), this may not be the correct treatment. We recommend speaking to our pharmacist to ensure this is the right product for your needs.

Does Motilium cause drowsiness?

Drowsiness is not a common side effect of Motilium. However, everyone reacts differently to medication. If you do feel sleepy or dizzy after taking it, do not drive or operate machinery.
