Nausea, Acid Indigestion & Reflux

Find relief from nausea, acid indigestion, heartburn and reflux in one place. This range covers antacids and alginates that soothe on contact, acid-reducing tablets for longer control, and treatments for feelings of sickness — including Gaviscon Extra, Nexium Control, Pepcid AC and Motilium Fastmelts.

Choosing the right heartburn or reflux treatment

For fast, short-lived heartburn, an antacid or alginate such as Gaviscon neutralises acid and forms a protective raft on top of the stomach contents. For more persistent or frequent reflux, a proton pump inhibitor such as Nexium Control (esomeprazole) reduces how much acid the stomach makes and is intended for short courses. Products for nausea and sickness, such as Motilium, work differently again. If you are not sure which fits your symptoms, ask our pharmacist.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an antacid and Nexium?

Antacids and alginates (like Gaviscon) neutralise acid quickly for immediate, short-term relief. Nexium Control (esomeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor that lowers acid production for more persistent heartburn and is taken as a short course rather than as needed.

How long can I treat heartburn myself?

Occasional heartburn and indigestion can be self-treated, but you should see your doctor if symptoms last longer than two weeks, keep coming back, or are severe.

When should I see a doctor?

Seek medical advice if you have difficulty or pain swallowing, unintended weight loss, persistent vomiting, black or bloodstained stools, or if you are over 55 with new symptoms.
