Product Information

Cetrine Allergy is a highly effective anti-allergy medicine containing the active substance cetirizine dihydrochloride. It is a second-generation antihistamine designed to provide fast and sustained relief from the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic reactions without the heavy sedative effects of older antihistamine treatments.

Relief from Allergy Symptoms

In adults and children aged 6 years and older, Cetrine Allergy is indicated for:

  • Nasal Symptoms: Sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, and nasal congestion.

  • Ocular Symptoms: Itchy, red, or watery eyes.

  • Skin Reactions: Itching and hives (chronic idiopathic urticaria).

How It Works

Cetrine works by blocking the effects of histamine, a natural substance produced by your body during an allergic reaction. By inhibiting histamine, it helps to control and reduce symptoms caused by environmental triggers such as pollen, dust mites, or pet dander.

Pharmacist Advice

At Inish Pharmacy, we recommend Cetrine for those who experience seasonal or year-round allergies and prefer a once-daily, non-drowsy option.
Cetrine helps control histamine levels — the natural substance responsible for allergic reactions — allowing you to stay comfortable and symptom-free throughout the day.

If symptoms persist or worsen despite regular use, speak with your pharmacist or GP for further assessment.

How to use

How to Take Cetrine

  • Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Take one 10 mg tablet once daily with water.
  • Children aged 6–12 years: Half a tablet twice daily (morning and evening).
  • Swallow whole; may be taken with or without food.
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose.

If you forget to take a dose, skip the missed tablet — do not double up.
These tablets are not suitable for children under 6 years.

Who Should Not Take Cetrine

Do not take Cetrine if you:

  • Are allergic to cetirizine, hydroxyzine, piperazine derivatives, or any ingredients in the medicine.
  • Have severe kidney problems.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless directed by your doctor.

Use with caution if you have kidney disease, urinary retention, epilepsy, or are taking medicines that may cause drowsiness.

Possible Side Effects

Cetrine is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects are headache, dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness, or mild drowsiness.
Rare side effects can include allergic skin reactions, rapid heartbeat, or swelling of the face or throat.

If you notice severe allergic symptoms or difficulty breathing, stop using Cetrine and seek medical attention immediately.
