Taking a safe, supported approach to weight management
Carrying excess weight is one of the most common health concerns in Ireland, and it is linked to conditions including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, joint problems and heart disease. Sustainable weight management usually combines changes to diet, physical activity, sleep and everyday habits — and, for some people, additional medical support arranged through a healthcare professional.
Our pharmacy team supports people who want to manage their weight in a safe, evidence-based and individualised way.
How prescription weight-management treatment is accessed.
-
Assessment by a prescriber
Prescription weight-management medicines can only be supplied on foot of a prescription, following individual assessment by a prescriber. You may use your own GP, or an independent online prescribing service. Online prescribing services are operated by third-party providers, independent of Inish Pharmacy. -
Your choice of pharmacy
If you are issued a prescription, you decide which pharmacy dispenses it. You are free to send your prescription to Inish Pharmacy or to any other pharmacy you prefer. -
Dispensing & pharmacist support at Inish
If you choose Inish Pharmacy, we dispense your prescription with full pharmacist counselling. We provide all the relevant information and counselling with your medicine, and our pharmacists are available to speak with you by phone whenever you need. We provide cold-chain delivery where required, and sharps bins for safe needle disposal on request.
Mounjaro (tirzepatide): prescription-only medicine information.
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine. As a registered pharmacy, we are not permitted to advertise prescription-only medicines to the public, so this page does not provide promotional information, pricing or comparisons. If you have been prescribed Mounjaro — or want to read accurate, independent information about it — you can view the official patient information leaflet and approved product information published by the European Medicines Agency at ema.europa.eu/en/medicines/human/EPAR/mounjaro. Whether any prescription treatment is appropriate for you is a decision for a prescriber following an individual assessment.
More generally: some weight-management medicines are prescription-only. Irish law (S.I. No. 541/2007) does not permit pharmacies to advertise them to the public, which is why this page does not list, price or compare specific prescription products — prescription treatment is always considered individually by a prescriber rather than chosen from an advert.
If you have a prescription and would like to know the cost of dispensing it, please contact our pharmacy team and we will be happy to confirm it for you.
Understanding weight and your health
BMI and waist measurement. How clinicians assess weight-related health risk, and why BMI is only part of the picture.
How your body regulates appetite. Your appetite is controlled by signals between your gut, brain and hormones. After you eat, your gut releases hormones — including one called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) — that help you feel full, slow how quickly your stomach empties, and help regulate blood sugar. These natural signals are part of how your body manages hunger and energy balance, and they are one reason weight can be easier or harder to manage for different people.
