Gaviscon Extra Mixed Berries Chewable Tablets

• Chew two to four tablets thoroughly, after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.
• For adults and children 12 years and over. Not recommended for children under 12.
• Take after eating and before bed, when reflux symptoms are most likely.
• Do not take within 2 hours of other medicines taken by mouth, as Gaviscon can affect how they are absorbed.
• Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better, or feel worse, after 7 days.

Who should not use it

Do not take if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Not suitable for children under 12 years. Contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine, so do not take if you have phenylketonuria (PKU).

Warnings & precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use if you have kidney or heart disease, severe kidney problems, a low blood phosphate level (hypophosphataemia), reduced stomach acid, kidney stones or a high blood calcium level, or an intolerance to some sugars. Each dose contains sodium and calcium, so take care if you are on a low-salt diet or need it every day for a long time. Contains carmoisine (E122), which may cause an allergic reaction. Like all antacids it can mask the symptoms of more serious conditions - see your doctor if symptoms last longer than 7 days. Keep a 2-hour gap between Gaviscon and other medicines taken by mouth (for example antihistamines, some antibiotics, iron, thyroid medicines, ketoconazole, digoxin, beta-blockers and bisphosphonates).

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

Can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. As with all medicines, keep the treatment period as short as possible. Ask your pharmacist if you are unsure.

Possible side effects

Side effects are uncommon. Very rarely an allergic reaction can occur - skin rash, itching, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat with difficulty breathing; stop taking it and get medical help straight away. Taking more than recommended may cause bloating or mild abdominal discomfort.

Each chewable tablet contains sodium alginate 250 mg, sodium hydrogen carbonate 106.5 mg and calcium carbonate 187.5 mg. Also contains aspartame (E951, a source of phenylalanine - not suitable in phenylketonuria), carmoisine lake (E122, which may cause an allergic reaction), sucrose, and sodium (223.7 mg per four-tablet dose).
