Product Information

Tefin 150mg Suppositories contain ibuprofen, an anti-inflammatory painkiller that also brings down a fever. They treat mild to moderate pain and fever in children aged 3 to 9 years who weigh at least 15kg - including teething and toothache, earache, headache, sore throat, minor aches and sprains, and cold and flu symptoms. Suppositories are useful when a child can't take medicine by mouth.

Key features

  • Ibuprofen 150mg per suppository
  • Relieves pain and reduces fever
  • For children aged 3-9 years, over 15kg
  • Helpful when a child won't take oral medicine

How to use

  • For rectal use only - do not swallow. Wash and dry your hands before and after use. If your child needs to open their bowels, do this first.
  • Remove a suppository from the foil and gently insert it into your child's back passage, pointed end first.
  • Children 3-6 years (15-20kg): one suppository up to 3 times a day (maximum 3 in 24 hours).
  • Children 6-9 years (20-29kg): one suppository up to 4 times a day (maximum 4 in 24 hours).
  • Leave at least 6 hours between doses. Use the lowest dose for the shortest time. If your child still needs it after 3 days, or symptoms get worse, see your doctor.

Safety information

Who should not use it

Do not use if your child is allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin or other anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs) or any of the ingredients, has ever had asthma, swelling, a runny nose or hives after taking these medicines, or has (or has had) a stomach ulcer or bleeding. Do not use in children under 3 years or under 15kg, or if your child has chickenpox.

Warnings & precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use if your child has asthma, or kidney, heart, liver or bowel problems, or is dehydrated. Ibuprofen can hide the signs of an infection. Stop and get urgent medical help if your child develops a widespread rash, blistering or peeling skin, swelling of the face or throat, or breathing difficulty. Do not give with other ibuprofen or NSAID medicines.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

This is a medicine for children. Ibuprofen must not be used in the last three months of pregnancy and should only be used earlier on medical advice.

Possible side effects

The most common are stomach-related - indigestion, tummy ache or diarrhoea. Stop use and seek help straight away if your child shows signs of an allergic reaction or a serious skin reaction (rash with fever, blistering or peeling).

Always read the label

This is a medicine. Always read the label and patient information leaflet before use. If symptoms persist, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
