Xtex Carbocisteine 250mg/5ml Oral Solution Sugar Free 200ml

• Adults (including the elderly) and children 12 years and over: 15ml (three 5ml spoonfuls) three times a day to start, reducing to 10ml three times a day once symptoms improve.
• Children 6-12 years: one 5ml spoonful (250mg) two to three times a day. Children 2-6 years: half a 5ml spoonful (125mg) two to three times a day.
• Not for children under 2 years. Drink a glass of water after each dose and plenty of fluids through the day.

Who should not use it

Do not use if you are allergic to carbocisteine, related cysteine compounds or any of the ingredients, or for children under 2 years.

Warnings & precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use if you have (or have had) a stomach or duodenal ulcer, as carbocisteine can affect the stomach lining. Do not take it at the same time as a cough suppressant (a medicine that stops you coughing), because that can trap the loosened mucus. This medicine is high in sodium and contains propylene glycol, maltitol (unsuitable in hereditary fructose intolerance) and the colour sunset yellow (E110), which may cause allergic reactions.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

Not to be used in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor considers it essential.

Possible side effects

Occasionally stomach upset or nausea. Stop use and seek help if you notice signs of stomach bleeding or an allergic/skin reaction.
