Canesten Thrush Cream Clotrimozole 2% 20g

• For adults and young people aged 12 and over.
• Before first use, pierce the tube seal with the point on the cap.
• Apply a thin layer around the entrance of the vagina two or three times a day and smooth it in gently.
• Use an internal (vaginal) thrush treatment at the same time.
• Keep using the cream until your symptoms have gone. If they have not improved within 7 days of finishing the internal treatment, see your doctor.
• Treating a partner: apply to the end of the penis two or three times a day for up to two weeks, even if he has no symptoms.
• For external use only. Do not swallow it and keep it away from your eyes. If it is swallowed, contact your doctor or nearest emergency department straight away.

Who should not use it

Do not use this cream if you are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients, including cetostearyl alcohol or benzyl alcohol. Only use it if you have had vaginal thrush diagnosed by a doctor before.

Warnings & precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using it if it is your first episode or you are unsure it is thrush, if you have had more than two episodes in the last six months, if you or your partner have ever had a sexually transmitted infection, if you have had a reaction to Canesten before, or if you are under 16 or over 60. Talk to them too if you have irregular or abnormal bleeding, a blood-stained or foul-smelling discharge, sores, ulcers or blisters, pain or difficulty passing urine, pain in your lower tummy, back or shoulder, a fever or chills, or feel sick, vomit or have diarrhoea.

Clotrimazole damages latex. Condoms and diaphragms may not work properly, so use another form of contraception for at least five days after treatment. Avoid sex while you are being treated, as the infection can pass to your partner, and do not use tampons, spermicides or other vaginal products at the same time.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

If you are pregnant, think you may be, are breastfeeding or are planning a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist before use. It can be used in pregnancy and while breastfeeding, but only under the supervision of your doctor or midwife.

Possible side effects

Mild burning or irritation after applying it. If this is hard to tolerate, or you get redness, irritation or swelling after using it, stop and see your doctor. Some side effects can feel like the infection itself; if they get worse, stop and see your doctor. Stop using it and tell a doctor straight away, or go to an emergency department, if you have signs of an allergic reaction: a rash, swelling of the lips, face, throat or tongue, difficulty breathing or swallowing, feeling faint, dizzy or weak, or feeling sick.
