Feeling under the weather? You no longer have to wait for a doctor's appointment to get the prescription medication you need. Through the new Common Conditions Service, our highly trained pharmacists can assess, diagnose, and treat eight everyday health conditions right here in the pharmacy.

Where clinically appropriate, we can now provide prescription-only medicines following a private consultation—saving you time and getting you on the road to recovery faster.

The service is available at our three convenient locations in Co.Donegal at Buncrana, Carndonagh, and Muff. Our goal is to ensure that professional clinical advice and prescription treatments are always within reach for local families.

Common Conditions Service

Conditions We Treat

Our pharmacists are authorised to evaluate and provide prescription treatments (if required) for the following eight conditions:

  • Uncomplicated UTIs (Cystitis) – For females aged 16 to 64.
  • Shingles – For adults aged 18 and over.
  • Conjunctivitis – Both acute infective and allergic.
  • Allergic Rhinitis (Hay fever)
  • Cold Sores
  • Impetigo
  • Oral Thrush
  • Vulvovaginal Thrush

(Note: If your condition is not listed, or if our pharmacist assesses your symptoms and decides you need more specialised care, we will safely refer you to your GP).

How It Works

  • Step 2: Private Consultation

    You will sit down with our pharmacist in our private, confidential consultation room. They will ask you a few quick questions about your health, your symptoms, and any other medications you take.

  • Step 3: Treatment & Advice

    We will provide you with expert clinical advice. If necessary, the pharmacist will prescribe and dispense the appropriate prescription-only medication to treat your condition immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the service cost?

The consultation fee for the Common Conditions Service is €20. This fee covers your private clinical assessment. If you require medication, the cost of the medicine will be an additional charge.

Can I use my Medical Card or Drugs Payment Scheme?

The initial consultation fee is a private service charge and applies to all patients. However, if the pharmacist prescribes a medication and you hold a valid Medical Card or are covered under the Drugs Payment Scheme, the cost of the medicine itself may be covered under your normal scheme allowances.

Do I have to book in advance?

While we do accept walk-ins depending on how busy the pharmacy is, we highly recommend booking an appointment online to guarantee you are seen quickly without waiting.

Do all Inish Pharmacy locations offer this service?

Yes, the Common Conditions Service is available at Inish Pharmacy in Buncrana, Carndonagh and Muff.

This is a private service, therefore you may have questions about the fee associated with this service.

Inish Pharmacy operate a price transparency policy. This means that we have on display at the premises the cost of the services provided including the Common Conditions Service.

Please note that if you qualify for a government scheme, for example, you are a medical card holder, the medicine(s) may be cover under this scheme but consultation service charges may apply.
