Alka-Seltzer Effervescent Tablets Lemon Flavour 10 Pack

• Always dissolve the tablets in a glass of water before taking.
• Adults and children 16 years and over: 2 tablets, then a further 2 tablets every 4 hours if needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours.
• Not for children under 16 years, because of the risk of Reye's syndrome (a rare but serious condition).
• Do not take for more than 3 days. If symptoms persist, see your doctor.

Who should not use it

Do not use if you are allergic to aspirin or other anti-inflammatory painkillers (which may show as asthma, rash or blocked sinuses); if you have or have had a stomach ulcer or other stomach or bowel problems; if you have a bleeding disorder such as haemophilia; if you take other aspirin or NSAIDs, or high-dose methotrexate; if you are in the last three months of pregnancy or are breastfeeding (unless your doctor advises); or if you are under 16 years of age.

Warnings & precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use if you have asthma, nasal polyps, hay fever or allergies; gout; a history of stomach upsets; kidney, liver or heart problems; G6PD deficiency; or if you are elderly or about to have surgery (tell your surgeon you take aspirin). Tell your pharmacist if you take blood thinners, methotrexate, sodium valproate or phenytoin. Each tablet is high in sodium - take this into account on a controlled-sodium diet. Avoid alcohol, which increases the risk of stomach bleeding.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor advises, and it must not be used in the last three months of pregnancy.

Possible side effects

The most common are indigestion and stomach irritation. Stop use and seek help urgently if you notice signs of stomach bleeding (black stools or vomiting blood), unusual bruising or bleeding, or an allergic reaction such as wheezing or swelling.

Each effervescent tablet contains aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) 324mg, sodium hydrogen carbonate 1744mg and citric acid 965mg. High in sodium (around 445mg per tablet) - take into account on a controlled-sodium diet.
