Product Information

Brupro for Children Six Plus is a double-strength ibuprofen suspension for children from 6 years who weigh at least 20kg, with 200mg of ibuprofen in every 5ml. It brings down a fever and relieves mild to moderate pain, and because it is an anti-inflammatory it also helps with the swelling of sprains and strains. Irish-made, in a 200ml bottle.

Key features

  • Double strength - ibuprofen 200mg per 5ml
  • Eases pain and brings down a fever
  • Anti-inflammatory, so it also helps sprains and strains
  • For children from 6 years and 20kg - 200ml bottle

How to use

  • Shake the bottle well and measure the dose with the syringe supplied - never a kitchen spoon. Give it during a meal if your child has a sensitive stomach.
  • 20 to 29kg (6 to 9 years): 5ml (200mg), three times in 24 hours - a maximum of 15ml (600mg) a day.
  • 30 to 40kg (10 to 12 years): 7.5ml (300mg), three times in 24 hours - a maximum of 22.5ml (900mg) a day.
  • Leave at least 6 hours between doses.
  • Not for children under 6 years or under 20kg.

Safety information

Who should not use it

Do not give this medicine to a child who is allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin or any other anti-inflammatory painkiller (NSAID), or who has ever had wheezing, asthma, a runny nose, a rash or swelling after taking one; who has or has had a stomach ulcer, a perforation or bleeding in the stomach or gut; who has severe kidney, heart or liver problems; or who is already taking another ibuprofen product, aspirin or another anti-inflammatory. Not for children under 6 years or weighing less than 20kg. Do not give it to a child with a bleeding disorder or active bleeding.

Warnings & precautions

Avoid ibuprofen while your child has chickenpox - it has been linked to rare but serious skin and soft-tissue complications, so use a paracetamol product instead and speak to your pharmacist. Take care if your child has asthma or allergies, as ibuprofen can bring on wheezing. If your child is dehydrated - not drinking, vomiting or has diarrhoea - there is a risk to the kidneys, so get them drinking or speak to your doctor before giving it. Give it with or just after food if your child has a sensitive stomach. Ibuprofen can mask the signs of an infection, so watch for symptoms that are not settling. Never give it alongside another ibuprofen or anti-inflammatory medicine. Talk to your doctor if your child is no better, or is getting worse, after 3 days. Do not give it in the last three months of pregnancy.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

This is a medicine for children. If you are pregnant and looking for a painkiller for yourself, ibuprofen should not be used in the last three months of pregnancy - ask your pharmacist which product to use.

Possible side effects

The commonest are stomach complaints - heartburn, indigestion, feeling sick, being sick, tummy pain, diarrhoea or constipation. Stop giving it and get medical help straight away if your child vomits blood or passes black or bloodstained stools, develops a rash, blistering or peeling skin, starts wheezing or becomes short of breath, gets a stiff neck with a headache and fever, or bruises or bleeds unexpectedly.

Always read the label

This is a medicine. Always read the label and patient information leaflet before use. If symptoms persist, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
