Lactulose Fresenius 500ml

How to Use Lactulose Fresenius

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has advised.

For constipation (adults and adolescents over 14 years old):

• Starting dose: 15–45 ml daily (10–30 g lactulose)
• Maintenance dose: 15–30 ml daily (10–20 g lactulose)
• Take once daily, preferably at the same time (e.g. breakfast), or divide into smaller doses.
• May be taken undiluted or mixed with water, juice or another drink.
• Drink 6–8 glasses of fluid per day (about 2 litres).

Children and infants:

• Should only take under medical supervision, as it may affect normal bowel reflexes.

Possible Side Effects

Lactulose is generally well tolerated, but as with all medicines, some side effects may occur.

Common side effects include:

• Mild bloating or wind (especially at the start of treatment)
• Abdominal discomfort or diarrhoea
• Nausea or vomiting

If these effects persist, reduce the dose or consult your pharmacist or doctor.
Stop taking the medicine and seek advice if you experience allergic reactions such as rash, itching or swelling.

Warnings and Precautions

• Do not use if you are allergic to lactulose or have galactosaemia (a rare sugar metabolism disorder).
• Consult your doctor before use if you have abdominal pain, bowel obstruction, or inflammatory bowel disease.
• Long-term use of high doses may cause diarrhoea and electrolyte imbalance — use only as directed.
• If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, diabetic, or have a liver condition, seek medical advice before use.

Storage:Do not store above25∘C.Once the bottle is opened, it can be used for 1 year.
