Maalox Chewable Tablets Peppermint Flavour 40 Pack

• Adults: chew one or two tablets four times a day.
• Take them 20 minutes to one hour after meals and at bedtime, or as required.
• Do not take more than eight tablets in 24 hours.
• Not recommended for children.
• Do not take at the same time as other medicines - leave a gap, as antacids can stop them being absorbed properly.
• Do not take for more than 2 weeks unless your doctor tells you to.

Who should not use it

Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, if you have kidney problems, if you have been told your blood phosphate is low (hypophosphataemia), if you are very frail or debilitated, or if you have severe stomach pain or a blocked bowel. Not recommended for children.

Warnings & precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use if you have porphyria or diabetes. This medicine contains sugar (sucrose). Antacids can interfere with many other medicines, including some heart medicines, antibiotics and antiretrovirals, so do not take them at the same time. Taking an antacid for a long time can mask a more serious condition such as a stomach ulcer or stomach cancer - see your doctor if your symptoms persist.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

Do not take Maalox during the first three months of pregnancy. If you are pregnant beyond that point or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use.

Possible side effects

Constipation or diarrhoea can occur. Less commonly, changes in blood levels of phosphate, magnesium or aluminium, particularly with long-term use or if you have kidney problems. Allergic reactions are possible - stop taking it and seek advice if you develop a rash, itching or swelling.

Each chewable tablet contains hydrated aluminium oxide 400mg and magnesium hydroxide 400mg. Also contains confectioners sugar (a source of sucrose and starch).
