Product Information

Nurofen for Children 60mg Suppositories contain ibuprofen and are made for babies and toddlers aged 3 months to 2 years who weigh over 6kg. They bring down a high temperature (fever) and relieve pain from teething and toothache, earache, headache, sore throat, minor aches and sprains, and cold and flu symptoms. The suppository is a useful option when a child cannot take medicine by mouth.

Key features

  • Ibuprofen 60mg per suppository
  • Reduces fever and relieves pain
  • For babies and toddlers aged 3 months to 2 years, over 6kg
  • Helpful when a child will not take oral medicine

How to use

  • For rectal use only - do not swallow. Wash and dry your hands before and after use.
  • Remove one suppository from the wrapper and gently insert it into your child's back passage. If your child needs to open their bowels, do this first.
  • Babies 3-9 months (over 6kg): one suppository up to 3 times in 24 hours, with at least 6 hours between doses.
  • Children 9 months to 2 years: one suppository up to 4 times in 24 hours, with at least 6 hours between doses.
  • Do not give to babies under 3 months or under 6kg unless a doctor tells you to. Use the lowest dose for the shortest time. For babies 3-5 months, get medical advice if symptoms persist beyond 24 hours; for children 6 months and over, see a doctor if symptoms last more than 3 days or get worse.

Safety information

Who should not use it

Do not use if your child is allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin or other anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs) or any of the ingredients, has ever had asthma, swelling, a runny nose or stomach bleeding after taking these medicines, or has (or has had) a stomach ulcer. Do not use in babies under 6kg or under 3 months without medical advice.

Warnings & precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use if your child has asthma, or kidney, heart or bowel problems, or is dehydrated. Ibuprofen can hide the signs of an infection. Do not give with other medicines containing ibuprofen or other NSAIDs, and tell your pharmacist about any other medicines your child takes.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

This is a medicine for young children. Ibuprofen should not be used in the later stages of pregnancy; an adult who is pregnant or breastfeeding should ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking ibuprofen themselves.

Possible side effects

The most common effects are stomach-related - indigestion, tummy ache, diarrhoea, wind or constipation. Stop use and seek medical help straight away if your child shows signs of an allergic reaction (breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat) or a serious skin reaction (widespread rash, blistering or peeling).

Always read the label

This is a medicine. Always read the label and patient information leaflet before use. If symptoms persist, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
