Phenergan Promethazine Oral Solution 5mg/5ml 100ml

• Take by mouth, measuring each dose with a 5ml spoon.
• Allergies, adults (including the elderly): five 5ml spoonfuls (25mg) once a day at bedtime. If needed, this can be increased to five 5ml spoonfuls three times a day. Do not take more than 15 spoonfuls (75mg) in a day.
• Allergies, children 6 to 10 years: either two to five 5ml spoonfuls (10mg to 25mg) as a single dose at bedtime, or one to two 5ml spoonfuls (5mg to 10mg) twice a day. Do not give more than 5 spoonfuls (25mg) in a day.
• Travel sickness, adults (including the elderly): five 5ml spoonfuls (25mg) the night before the journey. Repeat after 6 to 8 hours if needed.
• Travel sickness, children 6 to 10 years: two 5ml spoonfuls (10mg) the night before the journey. Repeat after 6 to 8 hours if needed.
• Do not use for longer than 7 days. If your symptoms get worse or do not improve after 7 days, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
• After each use, wipe the neck of the bottle with a clean damp cloth. Use within one month of opening.

Who should not use it

Never give Phenergan to a child under 2 years old, as it can cause serious and possibly fatal breathing problems. It is not recommended for children aged 2 to 5. Do not take it if you are allergic to promethazine or any of the ingredients; if you are taking, or have taken in the last 14 days, an MAOI antidepressant; if you have diabetes (it contains hydrogenated glucose syrup); if you or anyone in your family has Long QT syndrome or a history of serious heart rhythm problems; or if the person is unconscious or has severe dizziness, drowsiness or headache.

Warnings & precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist first if you have asthma, bronchitis or other breathing problems; epilepsy; heart problems, an irregular heartbeat or a family history of heart disease; liver or kidney problems; a stomach blockage or difficulty passing urine; narrow-angle glaucoma; or have ever had Reye's syndrome. Tell your pharmacist about any other medicines you take, especially antidepressants, sleeping tablets or sedatives, anticholinergic medicines, antipsychotics, heart rhythm medicines, antimicrobials and aspirin. Phenergan can make you drowsy, including the next morning, so do not drive or use machines if you are affected. Do not drink alcohol while taking it. It can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so keep out of direct sun. Stop taking it at least 3 days before an allergy skin test, and tell your doctor you are taking it before any pregnancy test. Contains sulphites, which can rarely cause a severe allergic reaction or wheezing, and 37mg sodium in each 5ml. Do not take more than the recommended dose.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

Do not take Phenergan if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor says it is essential.

Possible side effects

Drowsiness, tiredness, dizziness or light-headedness, headache, restlessness, nightmares, dry mouth, blurred vision, difficulty passing urine, loss of appetite, indigestion, confusion (especially in older people) and sensitivity to sunlight. Stop taking it and get medical help straight away if you notice an allergic reaction (rash, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing or swallowing), yellowing of the skin or eyes, muscle stiffness, shaking or uncontrolled movements of the face or tongue, a fast or irregular heartbeat, lasting tiredness or a high fever with chills, over-active behaviour in a child, or a high fever with muscle stiffness, confusion and heavy sweating.

Promethazine hydrochloride 5mg in each 5ml. Also contains maltitol liquid (hydrogenated glucose syrup, which is not suitable for people with diabetes and may have a mild laxative effect), sodium sulphite and sodium metabisulphite (which can rarely cause severe allergic reactions), sodium benzoate, 37mg sodium per 5ml, and a very small amount of alcohol from the orange flavouring. 100ml bottle.
