Product Information

The Sinusalt Device is a nasal irrigation kit for washing out the nose and sinuses with a large volume of salt water. It comes with a soft 250ml squeeze bottle with a nasal adaptor and 26 sachets of a salt and xylitol mixture that you dissolve in lukewarm water.

Rinsing the nose helps clear excess mucus, pollen, dust and other particles, and can ease a stuffy, irritated nose with a cold, sinusitis or hay fever. It can also be used to clean the nose before using a nasal spray, and as part of nasal care after nose or sinus surgery when your specialist recommends it. The sachets contain no medicines or preservatives.

Key features

  • 250ml squeeze bottle with nasal adaptor
  • 26 sachets of salts with xylitol, one per rinse
  • Isotonic solution, close to the natural salt level of the nose, according to Sinusalt
  • Helps wash out mucus, allergens and particles
  • Drug-free and preservative-free
  • For adults and children from 2 years, with adult supervision

How to use

  • Wash your hands. Fill the bottle to the 250ml mark with lukewarm drinking water (35 to 39°C) that has been boiled and allowed to cool, or with sterile water.
  • Empty one sachet into the bottle, screw on the cap and shake until fully dissolved. Use a fresh sachet every time; never use table or cooking salt.
  • Lean forward over a sink with your head tilted slightly down. Breathe through your mouth.
  • Place the adaptor in one nostril and squeeze the bottle gently, so the water flows through the nose and out of the other nostril.
  • Use about half the bottle, then repeat on the other side. Gently blow your nose afterwards.
  • Use once or twice a day, or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist. Throw away any leftover solution.
  • After each use, rinse the bottle and adaptor with clean water and leave to air-dry. Do not boil it or put it in the dishwasher. Replace the bottle every 12 months.

Safety information

Who should not use it

Not for children under 2 years. Do not use if your ears are blocked or you have an ear infection, or if your nose is completely blocked so the water cannot flow through. Ask your doctor first if you have had recent ear surgery or have a perforated eardrum.

Warnings & precautions

For use in the nose only. Children must be supervised by an adult. Use only boiled-and-cooled or sterile water, and make up a fresh solution each time. Stop and see your doctor if you get ear pain, a feeling of fullness in the ears, nosebleeds, or if your symptoms last more than 10 days, keep coming back, or you have a high temperature or facial pain. The bottle is for one person only.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

Saline nasal rinsing contains no medicine and can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Ask your pharmacist if you are unsure.

Possible side effects

Some people feel mild stinging or burning in the nose at first, or a little water may drain from the nose for a short time afterwards. Stop using it and seek advice if you get ear pain or nosebleeds.
