Which Daktarin product is right for you?
- Daktarin 2% Cream: best for dry, cracked or red skin. Its moisturising base helps soothe the area while it heals.
- Daktarin 2% Powder: ideal for moist areas or infections in skin folds. Apply directly to the skin or dust into shoes and socks to keep the area dry and treat the infection at the same time.
The cream and powder can be used together — for example the cream by day and the powder at night — applying each once daily.
Common conditions treated
- Athlete's foot: fungal infection between the toes or on the feet.
- Jock itch / dhobie itch: fungal infection in the groin area.
- Ringworm: fungal infection of the body (tinea corporis).
- Intertrigo: rash found in skin folds.
- Nappy rash: infected rashes in infants.
Frequently asked questions
Is Daktarin available over the counter in Ireland?
Yes. The cream and powder are pharmacy medicines you can buy without a prescription. You'll answer a few short pharmacy questions at checkout.
Is Daktarin a steroid cream?
No. Daktarin is an antifungal (miconazole), not a steroid — it treats the cause of the fungal infection rather than only reducing inflammation.
Daktarin or Canesten — what's the difference?
Both are antifungals. Daktarin contains miconazole; Canesten typically contains clotrimazole. For ordinary athlete's foot or jock itch either is suitable — ask our pharmacist if the problem is recurring or you're unsure.
Pharmacy advice
For the best results, always complete the full course of treatment as directed in the patient information leaflet, even if symptoms appear to have cleared. If you are pregnant, breast-feeding, or taking a blood-thinning medication such as warfarin, please consult our pharmacist or your doctor before use.
