Product Information

Danalac Premium Goat Milk Infant Formula Stage 1 is a goat milk-based first infant formula, suitable from birth for babies who are bottle-fed or combination-fed. It is made in Estonia, in the EU, by Dana Dairy.

Important notice: Breastfeeding is best for babies. Infant formula should only be used on the advice of your GP, public health nurse, midwife or pharmacist.

Key features

  • Goat milk-based first infant formula, suitable from birth
  • Made in the EU (Estonia)
  • Contains DHA (as required by legislation for all infant formula)
  • Made without palm oil
  • 800g tin with measuring scoop

Previously sold in Ireland under the name Honilac.

How to use

  • Wash your hands and clean the work surface. Clean and sterilise bottles, teats and lids before every feed.
  • Fill the kettle with at least 1 litre of fresh tap water from the cold tap and boil it. Leave it to cool for no more than 30 minutes, so it is still at least 70°C. Do not use water that has been boiled before or artificially softened water, and do not use bottled water unless your public health nurse or GP advises it.
  • Pour the correct amount of water into the bottle first, then add the powder using only the scoop in the tin. Fill each scoop loosely and level it off – do not pack it down or heap it. Never add extra powder or extra water.
  • Put the teat and cap on and shake well until the powder has dissolved. Cool the bottle quickly under cold running water, then check the temperature on the inside of your wrist – it should feel warm, not hot.
  • Make up each feed fresh, just before you need it, and throw away any milk left in the bottle after a feed. Never warm feeds in a microwave, as it can create hot spots.
  • Use the water and scoop amounts in the feeding table on the tin for your baby's age.
  • Keep the tin closed in a cool, dry place (not the fridge) and use it within the time stated on the tin after opening.

Important information

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is best for babies. Before using an infant formula, talk to your GP, public health nurse, midwife or pharmacist. Introducing bottle feeds can reduce your breast milk supply, and the decision can be hard to reverse.

Allergies

Contains milk, soy and fish. Goat milk formula is not suitable for babies with cow's milk protein allergy, because the proteins in goat milk are very similar. If you think your baby has a milk allergy, talk to your GP before changing formula.

Preparing feeds correctly

Follow the preparation instructions exactly. Feeds that are too strong or too weak can make your baby unwell. Powdered formula is not sterile, which is why the water must be at least 70°C when you add the powder.

Feeding safely

Always hold your baby during feeds and never leave them alone with a bottle. Don't let your baby use the bottle as a soother – long contact with milk can cause tooth decay.

When to get advice

Talk to your GP or public health nurse if your baby is not feeding well, is often sick, has diarrhoea or constipation that doesn't settle, isn't gaining weight, or gets a rash after feeds. Call 112 or 999 straight away if your baby has swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing.
