How Acnecide works

Benzoyl peroxide works by killing the bacteria that contribute to acne and helping to unblock pores. Start gradually — for example once a day — to let your skin adjust, as it can cause dryness, redness and peeling at first. Apply to clean, dry skin across the whole affected area, not just individual spots, and use a non-comedogenic moisturiser and daily SPF. Improvement usually takes a few weeks of consistent use.

How long does Acnecide take to work?

Give it time — most people see improvement after four to eight weeks of regular use. Persevere through initial dryness by building up slowly.

Can it bleach fabrics?

Yes — benzoyl peroxide can bleach clothing, towels, bedding and hair, so let it dry fully and take care around coloured fabrics.

Any precautions?

It can irritate and make skin more sun-sensitive, so use SPF and avoid harsh products. If irritation is severe or acne is widespread, see your GP or pharmacist.
