Which Oral-B replacement brush head fits my handle?
This is the question we are asked most, and the honest answer is that Oral-B has two families of handle that do not share brush heads at all.
- Round-head rechargeable handles - Vitality, Vitality Pro, Pro Series 1, Pro 1 and Pro 3 - take the standard round refills: CrossAction, Precision Clean 4 Pack, the Precision Clean 10 Pack and 3D White.
- iO handles - iO Series 2, iO3 and above - use their own iO-specific brush heads. The standard round refills do not fit them.
Our Precision Clean and CrossAction Black listings state it plainly: compatible with most Oral-B rechargeable handles, but not with Oral-B iO or Pulsonic models. We are being careful here rather than definitive, because Oral-B has produced a lot of handles over the years and our product data does not cover every one of them. If your handle is not named above, or you are not sure which model you own, send us the model name from the base of the handle and we will check it before you order.
Can I use CrossAction or Precision Clean heads on an Oral-B iO?
No. Both the CrossAction Black 4 Pack and the Precision Clean 4 Pack state that they are not compatible with Oral-B iO or Pulsonic handles, because the iO uses a different head attachment. One older CrossAction listing on our site still carries out-of-date wording suggesting it fits the entire Oral-B lineup except sonic models; treat the iO and Pulsonic exclusion as the correct position, and ask us if you are unsure.
Which brush heads fit the Oral-B iO Series 2 and iO3?
iO handles need iO-specific refills, such as the Oral-B iO Ultimate Clean refill heads, which our listing describes as designed for the Oral-B iO Ultimate Clean toothbrush. We do not always have iO refills on the shelf, so if you are buying an iO Series 2 or iO3 handle, check iO refill availability with us at the same time or ask us to order a set in for you. It is the one thing worth planning ahead on with the iO range.
How often should I replace my brush head?
About every three months, or sooner if the bristles look splayed. Oral-B builds the reminder into the head itself: the indicator bristles on CrossAction and Precision Clean heads fade in colour as a signal that it is time to change. Our Precision Clean 10 Pack puts it plainly - dentists recommend replacing brush heads every three months. That pack works out at about two and a half years for one person, or a little under a year in a household of three.
Is an electric toothbrush actually better than a manual one?
For most people, yes. Our Pro Series 1 listing states up to 100% more plaque removal than a regular manual toothbrush, using a 3D cleaning action that rotates to break up and sweep plaque away. Just as valuable is the built-in two-minute timer, which stops the very common habit of finishing well short of the recommended brushing time. That said, technique still matters more than the hardware - an electric brush used badly is not better than a manual brush used well.
What brushing modes do the Oral-B handles have?
- Pro Series 1: three modes - Daily Clean, Sensitive and Whitening - plus a two-minute timer, an ergonomic grip and a travel case.
- Vitality Pro: three modes - Daily Clean, Sensitive and Sensitive Plus - with an in-handle two-minute timer, and it comes with a charger and two brush heads.
- Vitality Pro Kids: two cleaning modes and a pro timer that pulses every 30 seconds to move your child around the four areas of the mouth.
If your teeth or gums are sensitive, a dedicated Sensitive mode is the one feature genuinely worth paying for.
Do Oral-B electric toothbrushes have a pressure sensor?
Many Oral-B handles do, but we are not going to guess on your behalf. Our current listings for the Pro Series 1 and Vitality Pro describe the cleaning modes and timers but do not state a pressure sensor, and our iO Series 2 pages do not yet carry a full specification. If a pressure sensor is a must-have - and it is a sensible thing to want if you know you brush hard - contact us with the model you are considering and we will confirm the specification with the manufacturer before you buy.
Which Oral-B toothpaste should I choose?
What should I use to clean between my teeth?
Brushing cleans the outer surfaces, so cleaning in between is not optional - it is where most decay and gum trouble starts.
- Superfloss comes as 50 pre-cut strands, each with a stiffened threader end, a spongy section and a length of regular floss. It is the one to buy if you have braces, a bridge or wider gaps.
- Satin Tape Mint 50m is a flatter, broader tape that many people find easier to slide between tight contacts.
Whichever you choose, use it once a day. As our own Superfloss listing puts it, flossing removes plaque and food particles from between teeth and along the gumline, helping prevent cavities and gum disease.
Which Oral-B is right for a child?
The Vitality Pro Kids Spiderman and Frozen giftsets are made for ages three and up. Both have a small brush head with super-soft bristles, a waterproof easy-grip handle, two cleaning modes and a pro timer that pulses every 30 seconds, plus changeable stickers to decorate the handle, a travel case and a two-year warranty. They also work with the Disney Magic Timer app. Matching replacement heads come in Spiderman and Frozen four packs - change the head when the bristles change colour or start to splay.
